A sure TRP cure

Indian Idol 2 went the Saregama way. And why not? When the latter, the 'star' of Zee saw one of the renowned mentors, Ismail Darbar, stage a walk out, the TRPs shot up. And I won't be surprised if the same happens to Indian Idol 2.

Emotion, drama, tears - these are the mantra to ensure a rise in TRPs. Mere talent of the singers in a no-no. In September last year one of Fame Gurukul's best singers, Shamit Tyaagi, was mercilessly voted out by his best friend on the show, Arijit Singh. Tears rolled down. TRPs whopped up.

Consider all the never ending 'K' soaps (and all the other 'X', 'Y', 'Z' ones, which don't start with a 'K' and never end like one too!). The moment the producers discover that the audience is bored, they fashion a murder or a rape or a deadly accident. And what happens? TRPs rise up. Present Ma'am, Ekta Kapoor.

Atleast reality shows could have spared us this melodrama. But nope, they want huge rating points too, don't they? And what better way to garner this than inundate the show with lots of mushy emotions?

Like they say, It happens only in India ~~~~

I don't think it is just an Indian phenomenon. The "inspiration" for such cheap tactics might be from the original shows that "inspired" the Indian ones.

What with open warfares that television networks indulge in...All the fight for eyeballs. And then again there's the "Dumbing down" of information, perhaps they think their audience segment consist of nitwits and such like...However what's worth noting is that they do succeed.Oh yes they do..

Its so cheap !!! Ismail Darbar is recognised for his awesome music in movies like Devdas, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam etc...

That way Sony Nigam's Saregama was much better. They used to get good talent in also for those competitons + we got 2 songs from a versatile singer like Sonu( beginning and end of show). Really miss sa-re-ga-ma.

most of indian reality shows are gimmicks to raise money via costly voting systems. And talent doesn't necessarily have to save you from an exit. Where you are from, and what emotonal boding you create with the audience matters more.

Hmmm...they are jst following the formula set down by their counter parts in other parts of the world. Take American Idol for example....it's a huge huge hit over here...and has the same kinda walkouts, emotions, breakdown blah blah.....

Jst all part of "the plan" my dear!

:)

(.....and ho.....i haven't watched a single episode of AI uptill now)

excatly. when they have decided to have the audience votes they shud respect the decision of the audience. Otherwise they shud not have the audience votes at all. Only judges shud decide.

Do u think these talent shows actually select those talented ones ??
